“Expiry management” can describe very different jobs. A small catalog may need one date per product. A regulated or warehouse-heavy operation may need multiple batches, stock by batch and traceability from an order back to a specific lot. Calling both needs the same thing leads to poor decisions.
Scope A: product or variation expiry dates
This scope answers: is this product expired, expiring soon, valid or missing a date? It benefits from product-list filters, CSV import, an explicit expired-sales action and optional customer-facing display.
Scope B: multiple batches and stock allocation
This scope asks: which physical batch will fulfil the order, how much stock is in that batch, and should the earliest-expiring units be allocated first? That is materially more complex than one product-level date.
Scope C: recall traceability
A recall workflow may require order-level batch traceability, customer lookup, targeted communications, exports and audit-ready reporting. Stores with this requirement should document it explicitly and validate the process against their applicable obligations.
Choose by the evidence you need
If your immediate need is keeping product expiry dates visible, importing them cleanly and blocking expired purchases, a focused product-level tool may be appropriate. If your immediate need is batch stock or recall traceability, do not accept a product-date feature as a substitute.
